Your First Visit

What to Expect

It is our goal to make your child’s first dental experience as enjoyable as possible for you and your child.  We recommend bringing your child in for an initial dental visit between the age of 2 and 3 years old. At this age we break the initial visit into two visits. Usually the first visit consists of parent education and the child having his/her teeth counted (examined). This insures that the child has a fun and easy experience, finishing with the receipt of a new toothbrush, stickers and surprises.  On the second visit we introduce the electric toothbrush (polisher), floss and vitamins (topical fluoride treatment).  As far as pictures (radiographs) are concerned, we generally decide together when they are required.

We want to build a relationship with your child that will last for years in a trusting, comfortable and fun environment.  There are a number of things you can do to help create positive experience.  First, let your child know that the dentist is a friend and is there to help your child take care of their teeth.  Second, explain that, during the visit, the dentist will “brush”, “count”, and “take pictures” of their teeth.  Finally, please refrain from using words that may cause any unnecessary fear or anxiety.  The words “shot”, “hurt”, “needle”, “pull”, and “drill” do not exist in our office.  We are experts on explaining dental treatment to children, and we have developed a specialized language to describe our procedures to children in non-threatening ways.

New patient appointments are scheduled Monday – Friday between the hours of 10 am and 12:30pm. If you have any concerns prior to 2 years old, please do not hesitate to call the office to schedule an appointment.

Regular Appointments

Regular checkup appointments typically take 20 to 40 minutes. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately.
